Truly honored to be included here, Matt. Thank you for sharing about my work, but even more so for your kind and generous words. Can't thank you enough for all the support over the years. The mentorship goes both ways, my friend.

Hoping at least one of us, if not both, will be at the reading. Can't wait!! It will be a special night, indeed. Looking forward to that, and, as always, to the forthcoming essays.

And I ebulliently second your recommendation of Mark's book and writing. So grateful I got the chance to read it and to have it shape my life -- as a writer, a father, and a human being. Mark is a beautiful soul, and his wisdom is reflected in his work.

Thank you, Jason!

I'm hoping some MLNP readers hopped over to Take As Needed this weekend, especially to enjoy your excellent new piece.

Thanks for the invite, I look forward to the reading. I’ve been slowly working my way through Erica’s work. I anticipate her reading, her emphasis, and cadence will lend a great deal to what are already powerful words.

My last Reading was an event titled The Spoken Word in an expat cafe/bar in Cuenca, Ecuador. I was among eight who read their prose or poetry. The final reader was an Irish expat who read her epic poem accompanied by a soprano sax artist who played under the refrain. Magical. I didn’t quite match up to her work but I did get an affirming response to the pieces I read. There were tears and audible sobs in the crowd during my last piece, including a couple burly guys wiping their eyes on their sleeves. The next day I was moved to get my first tattoo: the quill pen and heart on the left forearm. It tells me I am a writer, and when I write, I gotta write from the heart. Writing is powerful, readings intensify those printed words…

Thanks too for the shout-out for my book. It means a great deal coming from you. The Bezios print-on-demand bookstore is the easiest source for the book but I have several inexpensive author copies that I’ve bought to simply give away. I’m not sure how to get them into the hands of an interested reader - perhaps you can pass on to a substack follower?

Thank you, Mark. Looking forward to seeing you on the 23rd, and catching up in general. Love this story about your reading in Ecuador—and wish I could have been in the room to appreciate it all in person! I agree with the power of readings. Eager to join in that lineage.

Appreciate you, my friend—

MK
